”Perhaps more than any other American sport, baseball’s past is shrouded in myths and legends, most of which are inaccurate. These inaccuracies not only obscure what really happened, but also makes it difficult to identify the contributors to the growth of what quickly became the country’s national pastime. Such is the case with New Jersey’s role in the early days of what is probably best described as organized baseball… Organized baseball was neither born nor created, but like any new venture, it needed a supportive framework to help it grow… Baseball was fortunate to have multiple cradles, one of which, and not the least, was New Jersey…”
