This ad, placed by Richard Stockton the Duke, offers a twenty dollar reward for the return a “Negro Man slave, named Sampson.” Described as “about 30 years of age, five feet six or seven inches high, very black, of good countenance, but awkward in appearance when spoken to; his knees knock, and his legs are remarkably small, compared to his body.” Sampson’s fate is unknown.
