Vegetables can be a feast for the eyes and the tummy when they go from art to dinner! Helena Clare Pittman and Victoria Raymond’s picture book and Morven’s Masters of Illusion exhibition will inspire young artists as they hear the story read by Morven’s Curator of Education, view some pieces in the exhibition, and then create their own still life watercolor paintings. Children will take home their paintings and stew recipe.

Hands Up! for Storytime

Thursday, April 18 at 11:00 a.m.
Breanna J. McDaniel’s triumphant picture book Hands Up! recasts a charged phrase as part of a black girl's everyday life--hands up for a hug, hands up in class, hands up for a high five--before culminating in a moment of resistance and strength at a protest march.  Join us in remembering the 56th anniversary of the week when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his letter from Birmingham Jail while incarcerated for protesting against segregation. We will create a multicolored paper handprint wreath to take home.

Seed Planting Storytime

Thursday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m.
Join us as May flowers are sprouting at Morven. We’ll read Grandpa Green by Lane Smith followed by a special seed planting adventure and tour through Morven’s historic garden (weather permitting). Everyone will go home with their own packet of seeds and instructions!

Color the Sky & Paint in the Garden!

Thursday, June 27 at 11:00 a.m.
From the award-winning Peter H. Reynolds comes a gentle, playful reminder that if we keep our hearts open and look beyond the expected, creative inspiration will come. Following our reading of Peter Reynolds’ Sky Color we will paint outside (weather permitting) in Morven’s garden.  Ticket includes same-day Museum admission.

America’s Space Hero: Buzz Aldrin Storytime

Thursday, July 25 at 11:00 a.m.
Astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong were the first two humans to land on the Moon.  As part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of this moon landing, and since Buzz Aldrin was one of Morven’s famous visitors during the Governors’ Era, we will read My Little Golden Book About the First Moon Landing by Charles Lovitt (Author), Bryan Sims (Illustrator) then  create a take-home rocket craft in Morven’s gardens.
